In this case, the questions have to be clear so that the respondents don’t misunderstand the same. It is an inexpensive method of data collection wherein the quality of questions really has to be taken care of. A questionnaire with improper planning and development always prove to be unsuccessful. A good questionnaire has to have really clear questions with the scale properly explained.

In order to make a good questionnaire, you can include a brief description of the purpose of your research in it. It is important for the respondents to know that what this research aims at. Set your questions logically and never mix them up. Keep the simple questions on the top, moving to the complex ones later. You can also group the questions which aim at drawing answers about the same thing. Usually, the format of a questionnaire has mixed up questions which can confuse the respondent and also may make him lose interest.

There is often absence of confidentiality in the same. The respondents have to be informed in written about their opinions being confidential. This will encourage them to give unbiased answers. This removes the fear of exposure of their opinions. In order to ensure them about the confidentiality of questionnaire, you can give a statement in the beginning of the same.

The researcher should never forget to describe about the place where the respondent has to return his questionnaire once he completes the same.It should be clearly explained on the questionnaire. Also, don’t forget to state for the respondent that he should fill out all the questions. This will be good for him as well as the researcher as an incomplete questionnaire is always discarded.

An incomplete questionnaire or the one with biased answers is of no use. Hence, it is very important to make the respondent comfortable about the confidentiality and place to return the questionnaire so that it reaches the right place in the right format.
